Glasgow Contemporary Art Fair

Miss Dotty
Miss Dotty is going on show along with a selection of my other work, both figurative and still lifes (and one cat), at Glasgow Contemporary Art Fair with Art Exposure Gallery next weekend - it promises to be a really exciting event, with a huge variety of work from many galleries and I am really excited about going along to see all the work.

The Uncharted Butterfly
The same weekend but on the Sunday, Mansfield Park Gallery opens its Flights of Fancy themed exhibition - the private view invite card is fab and this is another show I'm really looking forward to seeing the other artists work - it is going to be an art filled weekend next weekend, can't wait - and hopefully see you there.

A wee collection of my tea cup paintings will be on show at Art Exposure from friday - their first proper showing in Glasgow and I am quite looking forward to seeing them in a gallery setting. The opening is from 5 til 8 on Great Western Road, I'll be there from soon after it starts and hopefully I'll see youse all there!

Christmas Shows 2014

Peek A Boo
Fourteen of my paintings have been delivered to four galleries in preparation for their Christmas shows.
First up is Mansfield Park Gallery, who will be having a changing show, as buyers will be able to take their paintings with them, rather than waiting for the show to end - my contribution is two paintings of tea-cakes as well as one of a magic wand and a tiny 10 cm painting.
Leiper Fine Art have also started hanging their Christmas show but won't be having the opening until the 4th. It will be my first time showing with them - although not the first time at one of their openings - and it will be interesting to see The Beauty and The Innocent in among other painter's work.
Art Exposure Gallery is now on Great Western Road, a couple of doors down from Dominoes and across from the underground, and will be having their opening on Friday the 28th. They will have the upstairs area all finished by then so I expect it will be a great night to see a good range of work - along with Peek-a-boo (above), The Crest , Metamorphosis and two of the clown drawings.
Finally there is The Glasgow Art Club with their exhibition open to the general public from the 24 th. This one is particularly not to be missed, as it includes work from past as well as present members so provides a bit of a survey of painting in Glasgow since it opened - there is a watercolour painting of roses by Mackintosh, an oil by his teacher Fra Newbery, a couple of Muirhead Bone's prints, several luscious David Donaldsons and John Cunningham's fab Garden Festival painting, for example. Hanging the show, getting a close up look at these, was a real pleasure, and I do feel honoured to be hanging on the same walls as them - The Fool and the The Queen are both near the bar, while The Fall is in the newly restored big hall.
See you there?

Yellow Roses Painting

This is going to be a busy weekend, with not one, but three openings!

The first, on Friday night from 5 til 8, is at Art Exposure, where the above painting will be, along with a couple of small portrait paintings based on New York people. Most of the rest of the show will be small works under a hundred quid so should be quite inteseting. And, of course, the wine, canapes and chat is always good. There is a big, comfy sofa . . . .

On the same night is Virginia Gallery's christmas show. Being a little different, they have gone for a white theme - and I suspect at least a few of the works will be a little naughty. They also promise snow. Hopefully Jon Snow. I would like that.

The next day it is on to the RGI Kelly Gallery for their postcard exhibition - this year there will be small 5x7 inch works unframed for £250 as well as works up to 60cm in diameter. Promises to be very varied - my two little ones are both oils, one a painting done in the life room, the other a small landscape which is part of a new series that I am working on at the moment.

The big brother of the little landscape will be at the Glasgow Art Club Winner's Show from the 8th December - more on that later on!

Oil Paintings In Progress

Been busy painting rather than typing as there are a few events coming up - The Glasgow Art Club's joint prizewinner show in December as well as the RGI Kelly and Art Exposure Galleries Christmas Shows.

So here are a few that have been begun - there are a few more finished works lurking about, as well, that will be photographed the next time there is a sunny day.

Small Beauties at Art Exposure

Everyone is invited to Art Exposure Gallery tomorrow night, where I'll be showing the above painting ("The Profile") as well as the two below - the first of my New York paintings to go on show!

There will be nibbles and wine and good chat, as well as my paintings hung in a group (there are a few others going on show) and of course many other painters work on show.

Glasgow Art Show 2012

When I went to see Frances at Art Exposure at the weekend, she told me that my paintings were all wrapped up and ready to go to the Glasgow Art Show - most exciting! Unfortunately she wasn't sure if she would have space for them to hang or not (especially as she had just got a delivery of pretty big still-wet Paul Kennedy paintings, which looked pretty amazing. She also has a few Howson's to show.
It was a couple of years ago that I visited the old Glasgow Art Fair, which used to be held in George Square, and promised myself that one day I would be one of the artists showing. Now it's happening and hopefully this new show will be as interesting as the old fair. It is happening in the Grand Ballroom at the Thistle Hotel, corner of Renfrew and Sauchiehall Streets, and there are about 50 galleries showing - Art Exposure is opposite the bar, which is nice and handy. Hopefully some of you will make it along and if so, please tell me what you thought.

The Smile

Two openings tonight - the first at Art Exposure, where this painting will be on show, along with 4 little 10x10cm paintings - I had taken them down to the gallery as possibles for the next show, but she liked them so much she decided to show them as they are - sans frames!

Over at Virginia Galleries is the opening for their #Man exhibition - I have a little life drawing and an urban landscape in the show - and I was the only one who did put in a cityscape! A few of my life drawings are upstairs in Luke and Jacks, which is "For Love, Life, Sex, Romance & Celebration". So don't go to either the shop or the gallery if you are easily offended.

So tonight is going to be a long, talky night, to which you are all welcome to come along - I'll be at Art exposure first, sometime after 6, then probably on up to Virginia Street. Then home for a rest, before starting a few new paintings tomorrow!

The Actress

This Friday I'll have another 4 paintings on show at Art Exposure Gallery, including this one. It is one of the paintings that I changed after I got back from Amsterdam and although I liked it before, I like it even better now.

What else is happening? My painting at the RGI sold, there are a couple of paintings and life drawings on show at The Virginia Galleries, and a drawing of this lady at The Scottish Drawing Competition in Paisley - which I haven't been able to go and see yet, unfortunately, but should make it in the next week. Knowing a few people who've put work in, I'm quite excited to see what they've entered.

Oh, and I've been busy painting. Which reminds me that I'll need to find the time to go and buy some more brushes!

Webpage

Revamped my webpage www.janegardiner.co.uk over the last days, lots of fiddly work while the skies are dark - if you note any errors, please contact me, and I'll remedy 'em - keeping that kind of concentration going I find really hard. Anway, this is my first (almost) completed painting of Clare - the first model i hired on my own. There are a couple of things needing corrected that I've only noticed since looking at the photograph of the painting, that hopefully I'll have time to correct before she goes off to the framers on friday.

Art Exposure

More paintings at Art Exposure for their christmas show - a total of 6! Wooo - think I'm taking the place over!
The opening was fun, got to talk to my cousin (whom I first bumped into after years of not seeing at the Western's orthopaedics outpatients, of all places, a few weeks ago. She was busy selling christmas decorations that she'd made - so she has enougfht money raised to go climb some big mountain (she did tell me, but I'm not really strong on that kinda stuff). So, go Vanessa!
The painting is of another Jane, Jane Faye, who runs http://www.gaia-noir.co.uk/ and is therefore yet another crafty lady.

Bob

Six paintings on show at the moment, including this one at Art Exposure Gallery, where I had a rather nice night despite being stood up! The Skull is there too (below a Howson!) and there are three at ARTeries Gallery on Douglas Street.

Stretching Canvas

This is the first painting that I have made the support entirely myself (well, I did buy the stretcher bars . . .) - made the frame, stretched the canvas, gesso (x3)!

Don't think I'll ever go back - was kinda fun, doing all that work (in a kind of mindless way) and the painting just seemed to flow onto the canvas so much easier - there are still niggles that I need to fix, but I could see where I was going right from the start.

(the model is www.dominicjohnson.co.uk/Dominic_Johnson/Introduction.html , who certainly seems to be an curious chap, with plenty to think about).

ESSA

The opening at Art Exposure was interesting, got to really look at other artists work, including the lovely paintings of Fiona Wilson.

Currently have 3 works at ESSA auction - closing at lunchtme today - so went into Edinburgh on saturday - the Lyon and Turnbull showroom was in a bit of the town I'd never been to before, but it was too wet to really explore . . .

This painting was done as a study in using ultramarine and burnt sienna, along with titanium and flake white. First time I've really understood the advantages of layering.

First Show

Taking part in my first commercial show on Friday, at Art Exposure Gallery. Very nervous. This picture was framed by a new framer to me (at East Cambell St), and he did a marvellous job - will try and get a picture of it up in the gallery.
